Read the numbers
- Download · receiving data
- Affects streaming, downloads and loading large pages. Around 5 Mbps per HD stream or 25 Mbps per 4K stream is a useful planning estimate.
- Upload · sending data
- Matters for video calls, cloud backups and sending files. Allow around 3–5 Mbps per HD video call.
- Latency and jitter · responsiveness
- Lower is generally better. Latency is the round-trip HTTP response time to this server; jitter is the average change between samples.
Get a useful comparison
- Use Ethernet or stay close to your Wi-Fi router.
- Pause large transfers and disconnect a VPN if you want to test your normal connection.
- Repeat at busy and quiet times using the same device.
- Compare several results with the speed promised in your package.
This measures the route to our hosting server. Wi-Fi, device load, server load and distance can affect the result. It does not measure packet loss, identify connection technology or prove an ISP's advertised speed.
